Locksmith Scams

It happens to all of us. We get locked out of our house, our cars, lose keys, or accidentally break our locks. These things always happen at the most inconvenient times also! The fact of the matter is at some point you are going to need to put some new locks on at least 1 door that you know of. Now since most of us don’t have the necessary skills to properly fix doorways and since we would be in a jam, we would have to call a locksmith. This is where the tricky part comes in. There are so many fraudulent locksmith companies out that that it will make your head spin. They use over pricing, mis-quoting, and they even use intimidation tactics. For example, some companies might not give you the keys UNLESS you pay them what they SAY you owe. This is generally up to the locksmith who shows up. They could quote you a certain rate, but then turn around and add processing fees, lock cost, observation fees, handling fees, and travel expenses. An honest business would lay everything out before you ahead of time and let you know exactly what you are paying for.

If you are in a jam, you may bend to these ludicrous amounts. The locksmith scam takes advantage of those people who are backed in a corner by their situation. However, if you have a phone on you or can wait these people out, you can literally call the Better Business Bureau and complain. They are well aware of the false practices and intimidation that these lock thugs use.

You can easily avoid this scam like most scams by doing your research. You can find someone who has great reviews all through the power of the internet. If you happen to be in a bind, try not to panic and go for the first person you see. That often leads to ruination. Take a little time and find your match. Remember, this is YOUR money that we are talking about!
