Fake AirPort Taxi Scam: The Scenic Route To Losing Your Time And Money

Most of us like to travel or at least don’t complain too much when we have to go places. If you are an avid traveler then chances are that you know how to spot your typical travel scams. However, if you are relatively new to traveling then you may need to pick up a few hints here and there. When you land at an airport you must make sure that you do not fall for the Fake AirPort Taxi Scam.

People like going on vacations but the airport is the last place anyone wants to get stuck waiting around in. You need to be careful not to get into the wrong taxi or cab. The Fake AirPort Taxi Scam happens when you are in a rush and decide to throw your bags into any old car. You may haggle for a full rate or a rate per mile, which may lead the driver to take the scenic route- costing you more money. The other thing that these scamming taxi cab drivers do is that they would charge you a flat fee, which may seem cheap but then hold your baggage for “ransom.” That means that you have to tip very well before they drive off with your stuff. This corners tourists and they would start their vacations off on a bad tip. It’s very easy to get caught up in this scam because you are in a new place and do not know all the rules and probably figure as you go along you will experience new things.

This is unfortunately one of those scams that can sneak up on you wherever you go. If you want to take an extra step to prevent it you can always check your cabbies credentials and registration. If they are affiliated with a company or properly licensed then it may be safer for you and your wallet. If it’s just a person in a car then you may want to wait for the next one.
