Cellular Phone Dating Service Scheme

Malware is software that is specifically designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system, most times without the owner even knowing it before it’s too late.

Malware will often times lure its victims to it’s website through the receipt of a text message on your cellular phone. The message thanks the recipient for subscribing to a dating service, which is fictitious, and states the subscription fee of $2.00 per day will be automatically charged to their cellular phone bill until their subscription is canceled at the online site.

The recipient obviously never signed up for the dating service and decides to go onto the website that was provided in the text message in order to cancel. Once they are on the “cancellation page” they will be prompted to enter their mobile phone number then given the option to run a program which is supposed to remove their subscription to the service.

Once the run option is selected on the website, the malware adds several files to the host and changes registry settings to open a backdoor port and lower Windows security settings. This essentially allows hackers direct remote access to your computer. They can now view all your personal and confidential information with the click of a button. It is important to not fall for these cellular phone dating scams.
